Come and Sew has developed a sewing pattern line called “Patterns for Life.” The purpose for this pattern series is to introduce God’s love while also teaching sewing skills. Each pattern includes instruction on how to construct a project and the presents the gospel of Jesus Christ (the pattern for our life).
This is an ongoing work for the ministry as many seamstresses bring us new project ideas to be printed and used for outreach. Creative stories or short devotionals are often included – providing a creative way to find Christ or to encourage a deeper walk with the Lord. Several of CASMI’s “Patterns for Life” have been translated into Russian with plans to translate to other languages.
A soft toy called “Way to Go John” was the first stuffed toy. It comes along with a story about John’s life – John is a 3 legged dog with a button on leg. His story is one that tells the children about how he found his hope in Jesus when he had to accept an artificial leg after an accident. Most of the children we minister to will live their life in very difficult conditions – their only hope coming from Jesus Christ.
The first sewing mission team sewed warm fleece hats with many Russian children in October 2005. The trip and patterns were a big hit with the children, teachers and staff that work with the children on a weekly basis. Many “Street Children” have heard about the sewing program at a local street center and are coming to learn how they can make something and in that process they are learning about Christ.
Perhaps you would like to give to the Lord by helping to develop patterns that will bring the love and encouragement of Jesus to children of the world or use CASMI’s “Patterns for Life” projects to reach children near you?
